Escape To The Stars

Summary

A strategy game where you have limited time to colonize a planet before an evil A.I. comes and turns it into widgets! You must gather resources to build a spaceship to escape to a different planet, and figure out a way to defeat the evil A.I.!

Story

Humanity lost the Earth to the evil Widget Maximizer (WM), a super advanced A.I. that is slowly turning the whole universe into widgets. You are the leader of the Grand Mission to Save The Universe! In order to win, you must design a Benevolent A.I. that is powerful enough to defeat the evil WM. But the WM is spreading out to other worlds and is chasing you to every new planet you go to. Thus, you must build spaceships to escape and avoid being turned into widgets.

Resources

There are three basic resources in this game: Matter, Energy, and Information, You mine Matter from planets, you farm Energy, and you research Information. In addition, you have Population, who are important for obvious reasons, and Labour, which represents the capacity to convert material into useful things. There are also special resources, Fuel, and Antimatter which can be stored and turned into Energy.

Colonies

When you first reach a new solar system, you have the option to choose one planet to colonize, and where on the planet to establish your capital. Once established, you can build transports to other regions and expand by establishing colonies there.

Choosing the right place to start and expand is important, because you have limited time, and probably won’t be able to colonize the whole planet before the WM arrives and starts converting the planet into widgets.

This part of the game resembles certain board games in the sense that the colonies and roads must be built along a grid of smaller hexagons that overlays the terrain.

Escaping By Spaceship

You need a certain amount of matter and energy to build your Spaceship. Furthermore, the Rocket Equation decides how much you can carry with you on your journey. Once you escape a planet, you lose control of it and any colonies you had there. The reason you need to escape is because the WM will eventually spread to your planet, and so the sooner you escape, the more time you have on another planet to colonize and collect resources.
